Mattress Guide

What size is a single mattress?

Suitable for both children and adults. A single bed and mattress measures in at 90cm wide and 190cm long. In imperial dimensions, this is equal to 3 feet wide and 6 feet 3 inches long. Single (3’0”) beds are wider than ‘small singles’ and provide a good amount of room for a single sleeper. This is the most common size for children’s beds, including bunk beds. For growing children, single beds can account for any growth spurts, from toddler right up through to teenage years.

Best for: 1 person

What are the dimensions of a small double mattress?

A small double bed and mattress measure 120cm in width and 190cm in length in metric dimensions. In imperial measurements, this equates to 4 feet wide and 6 feet 3 inches long. A small double (4’0”) bed, offers a wider sleeping area than a single bed but is narrower than a standard double bed. It provides ample space for one person or can accommodate two individuals (though it may feel a bit cozy for two adults). Small doubles are excellent for smaller bedrooms and guest rooms where a full-size double bed may not fit comfortably. For rooms with limited space, small double beds with storage features such as ottoman or divan bases are a practical choice to maximize storage capacity.

Best for: 1 person and small bedrooms

What are the dimensions of a standard double mattress?

A standard double bed and mattress measure 135cm in width and 190cm in length in metric units. In imperial units, this translates to 4 feet 6 inches wide and 6 feet 3 inches long. Designed to comfortably accommodate two adults, a standard double bed (4’6”) is the most prevalent and easily accessible size across all bed types in the UK.

Best for: Comfortably fit 2 people and for small to average sized bedrooms

What are the dimensions of a king-size mattress?

A king-size bed and mattress measure 150cm in width and 200cm in length in metric units. In imperial units, this converts to 5 feet wide and 6 feet 6 inches long. A standard king-size (5’0”) bed offers a longer length compared to a standard double bed and mattress, providing 6 feet 6 inches of space instead of 6 feet 3 inches. A king-size bed comfortably accommodates two adult sleepers but is best suited for larger bedrooms with ample space.

What are the dimensions of a Super king-size mattress?

With dimensions of 180cm in width and 200cm in length (equivalent to 6 feet wide and 6 feet 6 inches long), the super king bed stands as the largest among all standard UK sizes. The super king (6’0”) bed offers ample space for two adults to sleep comfortably, making it ideal for couples who appreciate having their own sleeping area. There's nothing quite like a leisurely Sunday morning spent with your loved ones all gathered together (pets included!) in the generous space of a super king bed.

Best for: 2 people for large bedrooms that value space when they sleep
